Defeating TB
With awareness!
Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused byMycobacterium tuberculosis. The disease affects the lungs and other parts of the body. When a person infected with TB coughs or sneezes, he/she transmits respiratory fluids through the air. According to the India TB Report 2022, India recorded an estimated 1.9 million new cases of TB in 2021, which was 19% higher than in 2020. Indian states with the highest TB Burden are Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.
Tuberculosis (TB) was the world’s leading cause of death due to a single infectious agent before the advent of Covid-19. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an estimated 9.9 million people fell ill with TB, and 1.5 million died globally in 2020, despite being a preventable and curable disease. India continues to hold the largest share of the global TB Burden. Awareness in every section of Indian society about TB through credible information is urgently required to be spread, as it plays a pivotal role in TB prevention. Considering filling the gap in spreading awareness by providing the right information about TB in India – ‘India Fights TB’ has been conceptualised, which aims to go all out with its measured awareness drive through various campaigns to fight TB at its root.
